Yu-gi-oh! - YCS Lyon 2023

This weekend (February 10 to 12) was the Yu-gi-oh! Championship Series (YCS) in Lyon, France. With a bit more than 2300 players, 3 of my friends from Strataegyc battled their way to the top. As for me, I didn’t register, so I decided to participate in the side events, and particularly in the TCG 8 players brackets. This was a good opportunity to play my new deck for the first… And last time… Because, yes, on the 13th of February took effect the new banlist, which changed a lot in the meta, and my deck Ichizu Tearlament (evolving to Kashtira Ishizu Tearlaments from Saturday to Sunday) got… A flesh wound.

In term of what I got from the side events, I did 5 brackets in the course of the weekend, with the following results:

• 0 win

• 1 win (semi-final)

• 1 win (semi-final)

• 0 win

• 2 wins (final)

This gave me a grand total of 5 points that I was able to exchange for 5 OTS 19 packs.

But now, you would ask, but what of the loot? The cards you got? Fu fu fu… Silly you… THE VALUE WAS INSANE!!!!

Photon Hypernova is the booster that seems to like me the most, from the participation boosters (2 for each bracket), I got 1 Triple Tactics Thrust (my 4th…), 1 Kashtira Arise-Heart and 1 Gigantic "Champion" Sargas. As for the OTS packs, I got a Water Enchantress Of the Temple, so, I guess value?

It was also a very nice experience to play with different people from usual, and send Ishizu Tearlament off… Currently, I’m working on building a Kashtira deck, but with a bit more flavour than just pure Kashtira.

From what I could gather from the Kashtira players, the deck is very weak to side cards (… Like any deck?), seems a bit brittle when interrupted and very linear in terms of plays. But to me, it seems quite oppresive when in place, and pretty consistent. So, all I’m trying to find currently is a build with protection for the main Kashtira loop…

We’ll see where it goes…
